The contest entry period has ended. The winner will be announced in an upcoming issue of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller magazine.
Using the ParaGrafix Jupiter 2 Hero Landing Gear and Moebius Models Jupiter 2 kit, create a photograph that emulates the classic gear-down shots from Lost in Space. All entries must include both the ParaGrafix Jupiter 2 Hero Landing Gear and Moebius Models Jupiter 2 kit.
The intent of this contest is to have fun replicating the Jupiter 2 filming miniature and gain bragging rights for a well built model. The winning entry(ies) will be featured in Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller magazine. The winners will each receive a copy of the magazine showing their fine work.
You may enter as many times as you like (with different photographs, of course) in any or all of the categories.
There are three categories: just the ship, diorama, and special effects. If there are no acceptable entries in a category, that category will not be awarded.
April 15, 2010
Through the lens photos will include only the Jupiter 2, preferably with a neutral background so that the ship (and its landing gear) is the focus of the shot.
A diorama will include the Jupiter 2 and whatever background the builder would like to create. Such background, however, must be in the spirit of Lost in Space and not, for example, be taken with a dog suggesting that this is an episode of Land of the Giants. For example, a diorama might include a landing pad similar to that seen in Ghost Planet, but it wouldn’t include a duplicate of the crash site from season one as the landing gear is not seen.
Special effects shots include any photos that are altered to include a background different from that in which the model was photographed. I.e. adding a starfield or planet that the ship is flying past.
Although technically a special effects shot, any space scene shot in front of a starry backdrop would qualify as a diorama.
Images must be at least 3 megapixels in size (i.e. 2000 x 1500 pixels) and delivered in uncompressed JPG format.
Judging will be done by Paul Bodensiek, owner of ParaGrafix; Ron Gross, main designer of the hero landing gear; and Mike Reccia, publisher of Sci-Fi & Fantasy Modeller magazine. Their judgment will be final – since there is no cash prize involved here, there shouldn’t be any major quibbles.
Close up shots with lenses zoomed fully out tend to distort the look of the Jupiter 2. It is generally better to move back from the ship and use the zoom feature of the camera.
Focus is very important. If your camera has manual capabilities, you should generally stop down the aperture as much as possible to keep as much of the ship in focus as possible. This may require more light or longer exposures, so plan accordingly.
Images must be submitted in electronic form to either contest@paragrafix.biz or on CD to the address below by the deadline noted above.
